Reading, Writing & Math Classes in Mission Viejo

Within Reach offers small-group reading, writing, and math tutoring for Pre-K through 5th grade students, with specialized reading instruction in phonics, decoding, fluency, and comprehension.

Within Reach Classes are:

  • Personally taught by the owner, ensuring consistent, high-quality instruction for every student

  • Engaging, activity-based lessons that make learning meaningful

  • Held twice a week (Monday & Wednesday or Tuesday & Thursday)

  • One-hour sessions designed to maximize learning and focus

  • Limited to just 6 students per class for individualized attention

  • Offered year-round, with classes available from 2:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

Learn-to-Read & Phonics

(TK & Kindergarten)
If your child knows their letters and letter sounds, they're ready to learn to read! Our Learn-to-Read classes use a proven, phonics-based approach to teach students how to decode words with confidence. Through engaging, hands-on lessons, students quickly develop the foundational reading skills they need to become successful readers.

In this class, students learn:

  • Letter sounds and phonics

  • Blending and decoding words

  • Sight words

  • Reading fluency

  • Early spelling and writing skills

  • Reading confidence and independence

Beginning Reader & Reading Fluency

Can your child sound out words but still reads slowly, hesitates often, or lacks confidence? Our Beginning Reader classes help students transition from learning to read to reading smoothly, accurately, and confidently.

Students strengthen:

  • Reading fluency and speed

  • Phonics and decoding skills

  • Reading accuracy

  • Spelling

  • Sentence writing/Penmanship

  • Grammar and punctuation

  • Reading confidence

Every lesson combines reading, writing, games, and hands-on activities that reinforce new skills in a fun and meaningful way.

Reading Comprehension

Helping students become stronger, more confident readers and writers. 2nd-5th grade

As students grow, reading becomes more than sounding out words. They must understand, analyze, and think critically about what they read. Our Reading to Learn classes teach the comprehension and critical thinking skills students need to succeed in elementary school and beyond. Students develop:

  • Reading comprehension

  • Vocabulary

  • Multi-syllable word decoding

  • Critical thinking skills

  • Inferencing

  • Predicting

  • Summarizing

  • Synthesizing information

  • Close reading strategies

  • Written responses and paragraph writing

  • Spelling and written communication

Students also learn effective reading strategies such as self-monitoring, rereading, questioning the author, and making meaningful connections between texts and their own experiences. Every class integrates reading, writing, and discussion to help students become thoughtful, independent readers.
